The Art of Consignment

A Guide Available Region: Mexico

What It Is

Not resale. A second vetting.

Consignment is the practice of handing a piece to someone whose whole job is judging it fairly, authenticating it properly, and finding it a buyer who values it the way you once did, rather than listing it yourself and hoping a stranger trusts your word for what it is and what condition it's in. The house does the inspection, states the truth about wear and provenance, and only then puts a price on it. That's the whole difference between consignment and simply reselling something.

It's a practice already trusted at scale in the U.S. resale market, where authentication is the actual product, and echoed in an older Japanese instinct that a well-kept object earns its dignity from how it was cared for, not from how many years it's carried. PreLoved was built on that same standard, see our own Vetted, Authenticated, Yours steps above.

Why Consignment

Why not just sell it yourself

A private sale asks a stranger to trust a photo and a story. Consignment replaces that trust with a third party's reputation, an authentication that isn't self-declared, a condition report that isn't written by the seller, and a buyer who's paying for that certainty as much as for the piece itself. It also tends to reach a piece's real value more reliably: a well-known Birkin, Kelly, or Royal Oak sells to the right buyer, not just the first one who happens across a listing.

There's a quieter reason too. A piece bought carefully and kept well, a leather bag conditioned instead of neglected, a watch serviced on schedule, deserves a second owner who'll do the same, not a bargain bin. Consignment is the mechanism that finds that owner.

How It Works

The shape of it, once intake opens here

Every serious consignment program runs on roughly the same five moves, evaluation, authentication, condition grading, pricing, and sale, in that order, never skipped or reordered. We're building Human Supply Company's own version of that pipeline for Mexico. It isn't live yet, so nothing below is a form you can submit today, it's the standard we're building toward and the reason PreLoved only lists what's already been through it.

01

Evaluation

The piece is looked at for what it actually is, brand, model, age, and condition, before anything else happens.

02

Authentication

Verified as genuine against the house's own standard, not assumed from a receipt or a hologram.

03

Condition Grading

Wear is documented plainly, corners, hardware, soles, so a buyer knows exactly what they're getting.

04

Pricing

Set against real comparable sales, not sentiment, not the original receipt.

05

Sale

Listed on PreLoved once, and only once, it clears every step above.

What Belongs Here

Handbags, fine leather goods, watches, shoes

The categories PreLoved is built around are the ones worth a second life in the first place: handbags from houses with real resale markets, Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton among them; wallets and small leather goods; fine watches with box and papers where possible; and shoes and sneakers in condition worth passing on. Fast fashion and anything without a verifiable house behind it doesn't fit this program, the whole point is a second owner getting the same standard as the first.

A Few Questions

Before you ask us to look at yours

Is this live yet?

Not as a public submission process. What's listed under PreLoved today has already been sourced and vetted directly; a general intake for Mexico is what we're building toward next.

Where does this operate?

Mexico, for now. That's the one region we're building this for; nothing here implies availability anywhere else.

Does consignment cost anything upfront?

No program worth trusting charges a seller to be evaluated. Once ours is live, it'll work the same way, a piece is worth submitting because it might sell, not because submitting it costs something.

What if I just want to know when this opens?

Join the list below. It's the same list PreLoved uses to announce new authenticated pieces, and we'll use it to announce intake once it's ready.

First to Know

We'll tell you the moment consignment opens in Mexico.
